Pt. 5 The ‘Out of Town’ Visitors…..
[Starfleet Dept of Temporal Investigations Archive Footage, Stardate: REDACTED BY DTI]
Loc: Guardian of Forever, Unnamed Planet
Kirk: Captain’s Log, Star Date…. Spock, what’s the date?
Spock: We are in Earth’s 21st century. A time period before stardates were in use. I believe the date is approximately December 8th, 2016. We have overshot our target date. The Romulan infiltrators have already succeeded in altering the outcome. Their aid to Putin in affecting the election was evidently invaluable.
Kirk: Then the global balance of power will shift. Environmental protections and safeguards may not be implemented. The outcome of future wars will change. Cochran might not even be born to make First Contact.
Spock: Actually Captain, there is a high statistical probability that if the Romulan aid to Russia goes unchecked, the human race may not exist by the time of First Contact.
Kirk: We can’t allow this to happen, but we can’t expose ourselves OR the Romulans. We need to work behind the scenes to expose the corruption and minimize the damage.
Spock: <eyebrow raised> You are being astoundingly logical about this, Jim.
Kirk: <grinning> Even I have my days, Spock.
Spock: Captain, I’m picking up an encrypted message on a frequency that no human government or organization should yet be using in this time period.
Kirk: The Romulans calling to taunt us?
Spock: I do not believe so. The message is automated and repeating.
<All visitors from alternate time periods and dimensions are required to state their intentions toward Earth and make contact with ARMOR. Per Multiverse Barrier Protocols, all unregistered visitors will be considered hostile forces.>
Spock: A set of coordinates are included. Historical records show they correspond to a base run by an ancient Earth organization called SHIELD.
Kirk: How much do we know about them?
Spock: Records are incomplete, SHIELD has been both a public and covert organisation in various decades over the past 70 years. However, based on what information we do have, I believe they may be allies to our mission.
Kirk: Well then, shall we gather the away team and go meet the locals, Spock?
Spock: Indeed, it should be quite fascinating to observe pre-First Contact Earth again.
